News (updated September, 2009):

I received my fifth Meet The Composer grant for a new piece I composed in collaboration with choreographer Amy Kail. We performed this new work, entitled "Between the Lines", at the Westbeth Theater here in NYC.

I can be heard playing vibraphone on a few songs I recorded with the singer-songwriter Matthew Puckett on the ABC series “Hopkins”.

I had a great experience playing and teaching at the Jazz Dialogue Festival at Eastern Washington University where Rob Tapper directs an amazing jazz program.

I had a great gig with trombonist Mike Boschen along with an amazing unit of improvisers that included Shane Endsley on trumpet and Marcus Rojas on tuba. This magical night of improvised music, standards and a great piece by Dave Douglas and the Specials took place at the Julliard School.

Along with some members of the Rudolf Steiner School music faculty, I performed with Inga Swearingen. Inga is an amazing singer from California who performs with Prairie Home Companion as well as her own projects. This concert also featured Michael Kanan (Jane Monheit) on piano.

I recently became an adjunct Professor of Music in Dance at Hofstra University where I teach a three credit course entitled Rhythmic Training and Dance Accompaniment.

Old news:

I recently performed a CD release gig with the Harry Whitney Trio in SF.

Harry is a very creative pianist and composer from SF. The trio, which includes one of my musical heroes, Cory Combs, has the ability to weave in and out of composed and open spaces. The Evander label recently picked up the new CD.

While in SF, I had a blast teaching some “playing with a drummer” classes at the San Francisco Bass Weekend. This event included a number of great clinicians and a fantastic bass faculty that I had the pleasure of collaborating with.

On June 15 th and 17 th , I had a chance to perform two of my new compositions at the Diapason Gallery for Sound in NYC as a part of a showing for choreographer Amy Kail. Amy and I showed our collaboration, Barrier Reef and I premiered a new piece of mine called Metal Sweet. Trumpeter and dear friend, Nate Wooley, joined me on Metal Sweet , a piece written for an assortment of bells, laptop and trumpet.

I closed out the month teaching an amazing group of students and working with the incredible faculty at the Summer Interlude, a summer music program in NYC.
